A History of Hair...

I have always had short hair.  When I was 11 years old, I asked my mom if I could get it cut wicked short, and she--amazingly enough!--said yes.  Ever since then, I've had very short hair.  However, I've started growing it out.  And I like it, which is shocking, because I always swore I would never grow my hair out.  But anyway I thought it would be interesting to have a look at my hair throughout the years:

Age 7: The longest my hair has ever been

17th Birthday (junior year of high school): shortest my hair has ever been

senior year of high school: a bit longer

Freshman year of college: getting longer
This is Johnny, one of my most favorite people in the world

Sophomore year of college: long on top & short of the sides
I'm at the Winter Ball with my date and best friend: Taylor Jones and a friend of our's.

Later that same year: short again!

Summer before junior year: wicked short again!
Here are 2 more of my favorite friends (Ryan and Taylor) and I in London!!

Junior year of college: starting to get long again...I look like one of the Beatles...

Junior year: looking even more like a Beatle...
(working on a Pirates of Penzance)

Getting longer....
My roommate's birthday!
(Jazzy and I split a delicious, massive strawberry shortcake.)

Drawing near the end of junior year: chopped my bangs and tried a more "flapper" look.
Here Kym and I are before Senior Formal

Finally, the very end of my junior year of college: the Bob.
Here I am with two of my favorite people in all the world--Ben and Carissa--and then there's Alec over there on the end too...  *smile*  (Leaving Ben and Carissa at the end of the year...talk about a crisis! haha)

And summer time: finally accomplished the pony tail!  Trust me, it's back there...
(By the way, you can see Ryan taking the photo in the reflection of my sunglasses.)

Well, there it is, a long, drawn-out, exhausting--and probably boring!--history of my hair.  And I actually do believe I like it better long!  And so, I take back all my "femminist" huffing and puffing about never growing my hair out.

Life Lately...False Reality?

Well, my life has taken an interesting turn.  I've started sitting with an elderly lady from 9:30am to 5:00pm.  She around 80-ish years old and has the early stages of dementia.  She gets really nervous about being home alone, so I stay with her during the day.  She watches TV the entire time, except for an hour, when we drive to a local restaurant and get lunch.  The days goes like this: 9:30, I arrive, and she's watching the Today Show.  After that, we watch The Price Is Right, hosted by a very sardonic yet thin Drew Carey.  After this it's lunch time: Wendy's today.  Once we get back, it's Let's Make A Deal, hosted by another ex-Who's Line guy.  Then we have The Talk.  And Finally Oprah.  *sigh*  Long Day of mediocre-terrible television.  I have taken to bringing a book along.  And am currently rereading all of the Harry Potter books.  I'm almost all the way through the 4th book now.

So yes, Harry Potter.  I sit, reading the books, all day.  And as I have mentioned, my fellow "sitter," is an elderly woman with dementia.  This leads to a messed perception of reality...after being consumed by Harry Potter for hours at a time without any sane human interaction...I do believe I go to Hogwarts.  I really do.

See that fence in the background?  I painted it yesterday with my little sister.  *smile*  We do good work.

Well, that's enough for today.  I hope everyone is having a lovely week.  Until next time...

Summer Evenings and Orange Sherbet

Well, it certainly has been a while since I last posted.  Goodness!  Life has been very busy.  Life always is, isn't it?  But my wonderful brother agreed to take pictures of me this evening after I returned from a shopping trip with my sister's Keshia, Hannah, and Maggie.

sweater: New York & Company (but I altered it)
dress: homemade
shoes: thrift

I love Orange Sherbet.  I love it almost as much as I love Mint Patty Frozen Yogurt from Captain Dusty's.  And summer evenings are perfect for a cold treat!

This is Maggie's cat, Moses.  He was a runty kitten, and now he is a sickly cat.  He's a bit gross.  But the poor thing continues to hold on year after year, and manages to fend for himself against our Huskey, Molly.

In this picture, I was supposed to be looking back down at my shoes, cause they're these older, weird clog-heals.  But I think Jon thought I was looking at my legs...cause he chopped off my shoes.  *smile*  Silly Jon...

My grandmother helped me make this dress a few years ago.  My grandmother is a wonderful seamstress.  She made all of her own dresses when she was in high school.  The funny thing is, she refused to let me make the dress any shorter or smaller, because, as she said, "It would be too short for a decent young lady!"

This time next week I will be in Frisco on Hatter Island, NC. I can't wait!  I love the ocean!  The beach is, by far, my favorite place on earth--any beach.  My family and I go every year.  I can't wait!  I hope you are having a lovely summer!

psycho killer, qu'est-ce que c'est?

Hey guys! It's been a super busy week. I started up a game of Assassins for Ben and a lot of our friends. If you don't know what Assassins is, it's basically a game where people chase each other with nerf guns and try to kill each other. Pretty exciting!

So for five people have died. WHO WILL BE NEXT?

I had to grab Ben and hurry outside to take pictures before the sun completely set.

He kept farting while taking the pictures.

I've been wearing these shoes into work, and I got chemicals on them that make them squeak when I walk.

See you soon!

Father's Day Post

Today is Father's Day.  And to celebrate, I made rice krispie treats, and then my mom, 3 of my sisters, and I ate almost the whole entire batch--we saved one for my dear father.  *smile*  They were delicious.  And now, the tight skirt I'm wearing is a bit tighter than it was this morning...

cardigan: NewYork&Company
shirt: not sure...got it in high school
skirt: Forever21
shoes: thrift

(These pictures are at a weird angle, because my sister Hannah took them sitting on a couch...I guess sometimes it's very hard to stand up at 11 o'clock in the "morning"...)

I bought this skirt and two others like it from Forever 21 the other day.  I've never really been one for the tight pencil skirts--even less so if they're just cotton.  I've just always felt awkwardly shaped in them.  However, I decided to just get over it!  But I still feel a little weird....

A happy father's day to everyone out there.  If you're not a dad: go eat rice krispie treats in honor of your dad.  And if you are a dad: have your stupid kids make you some for you!

oh! you pretty things

Sorry for the hiatus, guys! I've been pretty sick recently, and that's kept me from doing anything. I don't look particularly fashionable with snot running down my face. But I'm back! The weather's been finally cooling off here, so I can suffer wearing leggings instead of nothing but shorts now.

Happy Father's day to all the dads out there! Mine's currently in Malaysia on business, so I'll have to tell him over the phone!

This is the first time I think I've ever worn leggings as pants - not as bad as I imagined!

I found these wedges in my Mom's closet, and she gave them to me because they hurt her feet. I love them! They're my very first pair of wedges.

If you're wondering about the low quality of this pic (and another one) it's because my camera battery died, and so we had to switch over to my phone's camera!

See you! I promise I'll update more quickly!

Another One Hit Wonder

I thought that in the summer, posting daily would be easier.  However, I'm finding it harder to stay on top of things.  Since my last post, I've gone to North Carolina for a few days to help my grandparents pack up for a trip they are going on for their 50th wedding anniversary.  The same day I came back from NC, I left to pick up the last day of Bonnaroo.  The day after I got back that, I left with my mother to Ohio to pick up my little sister who had been staying with my other grandparents.  And then today, I helped rearrange my little sisters' room.  Busy.  Busy.  Busy.
But today I found a bit of time to take some pictures:

When I was at Bonnaroo, I saw a vender that specialized in wrapping little strands of hair with string.  It ended up looking like what the young ladies below have in their hair:

Pretty cool, right?  But it was expensive!  I was a little shocked.  So when I got home I tried it out on myself with some hemp binding string.  It worked out ok, but was a bit sloppy.  So that's why there's a random yellow thing sticking out of my head.  That's what happens when you wrap short hair...

shirt and shoes: gift
shorts: pacsun cutoff jeans

These shoes used to be my sister Maggie's.  And for, I think, 2 years, I wanted them so badly, but she refused to give them to me....until I bought these cutest yellow ochre flats.  Then she was willing to trade...so I did!  And now the shoes are mine!

Well, I'll try to be more regular with my posting.  We'll see...  I hope you all have a wonderful day.

   Until later...

party hard

hey guys! no new photos from today, BUT I thought it would be a good idea to upload some photos of Grace and I from before summer break!

I got to go to my school's senior formal since I'm going to be graduating this December, and I took Grace along as my date! My roommate and apartment mate planned the entire thing together, and it was such a great time! We had a cookout at our friends' apartment before heading to the Taj in Boston!

All pictures were taken by Paul Wright .

GRACE AND KYM CHILL OUT.

I got my dress on etsy from the lovely people at TiskTisk! It's a vintage 50's party dress, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the scalloped neckline. I bought it on a lot of faith,  and it turned out to fit me super well! I hemmed it up a little bit so it'd be more modern, and it was so fun and easy to dance in!

See you!

Peter Parker, junior photographer

I took some pictures of Ben today! After so nicely helping me take pictures for the past few weeks, I think he deserves some time in the spotlight.

MYSPACE CAMERA SHOT AWW YEAH

He just recently graduated college! He was a theater major, and is one of the funniest men I have ever met.

He also loves Spiderman more than words can ever say. It makes buying birthday/Christmas gifts so much easier.

What a cutie.

Thanks for helping me, Ben!
